What is the Patagonia retreat?

The Patagonia retreat is a 5-days/6-nights adventure photography course set in the raw and rugged landscapes of Torres del Paine National Park. Alongside a small group of passionate photographers, Alex will lead you to hidden corners of the park that few have access to — lesser-known trails, scenic overlooks, and areas he’s carefully scouted. You’ll also have exclusive opportunities to search for pumas and photograph local gauchos offering an authentic look into Patagonian life and culture.

Taking place in May—Patagonia’s quiet shoulder season—you’ll experience a rare sense of solitude in this iconic destination. The early onset of winter brings crisp air, snow-dusted peaks, and dramatic clouds that enhance the mood and depth of your images. With fewer visitors and soft, golden light stretching across the landscape, it’s an exceptional time to explore and photograph this remote and awe-inspiring region.

What will I learn?

This retreat is all about creating strong portfolio work that sets you apart. Thanks to our intimate knowledge of the area, we are able to go to best locations at the right time, and organizing talent to photograph that you would never be able to source on your own.

The retreat is designed to leave you feeling inspired and hungry about all the photography possibilities near your home. You will learn how to:

  • Direct non-professional talent for a successful outcome

  • Organize a full feature shoot from scratch: location, character, time

  • Increase your editing skills via Alex lead group editing sessions

  • Compose images that are striking and different, helping you stand out

Our Basecamp

Our basecamp is Estancia Cerro Guido, a historic Patagonian ranch set on a sprawling private reserve with unparalleled access to Torres del Paine National Park. With sweeping views of the Paine Massif and a warm, rustic charm, the estancia offers a peaceful and authentic setting to unwind after long days in the field.

We’ll have access to comfortable indoor spaces for morning teaching sessions and evening editing sessions, complete with cozy fireplaces and a quiet atmosphere that fosters focus and creativity.

Outside, working ranch life continues as it has for generations—horses grazing, gauchos tending to livestock, and wide open skies overhead. The estancia’s location places us within easy reach of the dramatic landscapes we’ll be photographing while providing a relaxed, grounded home to return to each night.

All Inclusive Experience

Once you arrive at the lodge, the entire itinerary has been custom tailored to give you the best possible experience. All lodging, meals, and of course world class education from Alex is included. With all of the details taken care of you get to sit back and enjoy, taking time in a peaceful environment to digest all of the learnings from the retreat.

Authentic Cuisine…

Some of the finest food in all of Patagonia. Experienced chefs bring the native flavors of the local gaucho culture to the table. You’ll experience flavors, textures, and techniques like no where else. The thoughtfully prepared meals will be served family style around a shared farm table, creating the perfect setting for the group to connect and get to know each other better.

Cortado O’clock

As with any of our retreats, you can expect the highest level of coffee experience — both espresso and slow bar will be available at different times of the day to unwind or to learn how to pull your first shot.
